Time and patience

"Patience and timing.......everything comes when it must come. A life cannot be rushed, cannot be worked on a schedule as so many people want itto be. We must accept what comes to us at a given time, and not ask for more.

But life is endless, so we never die,; we were never really born. We just pass through different phases. There is no end. Humans have many dimensions, but time is not as we see time, but rather in lessons that are learned."

Fasting during Ramadan

Devrim says. "I believe controlling the mind and the will are much harder tasks than subduing the body. I am also of the conviction that just the physical act of fasting in alone does not accomplish much, unless the fast is part of a larger effort to get closer to God and be kinder to people around, it is an empty and meaningless exercise in itself. "

I think he just described Yoga.

Khosla ka Ghosla

The best hindi film I've seen this year. For sure.

Most people I know are working in an office somewhere. Team meetings, projects, goals, and accomplishments. Then comes team outings, office parties, and the list goes on. Basically it's PEOPLE. People is good.

I'm jealous. Jealous of those who seem to be working on cool stuff (who cares about the ones sweating it out for some commercial bank).

Working on your own time has its benefits. It's allowing me to plan my day around my newest personal project -- knitting a blankie for my best friend's soon-to-arrive baby. I don't have to toe the line because my boss might look over my shoulder any minute. However, seeing external faces everyday is a requirement. By external I mean outside your home, i.e. mom, dad, brother, etc.

I realize this slowly.

A little Haplology

Ever had trouble writing itinerary? I always write it out at itinery.

It's a mild case of haplology where you eliminate one of a pair of sounds or syllables.

Other words that cause this "disease" are library, February, aluminium. Got any others?

Well, let's do a little recap.

Some things I've been missing lately from my life in NY.

1. Road trips
2. Green and Black's Organic Chocolate (I have succeeded in getting some shipped to me)
3. Random men handing out music CDs on the subway to promote their bands
4. Coffee shops with a wide selection of teas
5. Korean food that doesn't contain garam masala
6. Live music
7. Clean sidewalks (you can't walk on them in India without the smell of piss accompanying you)
8. Public transportation, i.e. buses that I can actually get on
9. Quiet Sunday afternoons
10. Living and working with my best friends

In retrospect

So the reason I'm a part of nomadlife is that my friend Devrim, who I know from AIESEC started it with other AIESECers to create an online community of the cool people who want to share their stories. He bugged me for days to get my act together and start this blog. I still don't meet his expectations with my lethargic posting habits but at least I'm here.

In March, my friend Tulika and I decided to travel around China. Devrim hooked us up with AIESECers in Beijing and we stayed with an incredibly hospitable crowd. We wouldn't have enjoyed ourselves half as much if we had been on our own without any friends there. In Shanghai, we met more AIESECers and went away on a weekend trip with them. I've talked about this before, but midnight MahJong, bicylce races, and hours of conversations -- we forgot we had never met before.

Matthew Neagle, also an AIESECer was moving to Hyderabad (my hometown) in May to work with Google for a few months. He reached out to me when he saw my blog and realised I'm an AIESEC alumnus. Matthew was my first yoga student at Urban Yoga. He was also my biggest advocate and introduced several other Googlers to my class. He left last night and I was sad to see him go.

These are just two stories.

I'll be the first one to admit that I was a bit skeptical of AIESEC when I was in college. I met a lot of great people, but I still kept a distance for some reason. But in the last few years AIESEC has touched my life again and again. It hit me a few years ago, after leaving college, that this is an incredible network of some cool people in this world.

Salaam

Catching up...

Everytime I sit down to blog, I end up doing something else. So, I'm going to try again. Sometimes, it feels like a waste of time to subject other people to my mundane life.

Today is Teacher's Day. It's MY day...yeah baby! I'm a teacher now. So bow down and honor me. Go on now...

What's been going on? I went back to Mysore for a week and have been in Hyderabad since then. Hyd is still hot and sweaty with hardly any rain. I'm teaching yoga at this cool studio called Urban Yoga and also still learning Kathak.

Some pictures from Mysore (in case you haven't already seen them):
